Are you looking for a hearing aid that blends in with your ear so well that others can barely see it? Then completely-in-canal hearing aids (CIC) could be the right solution for you.

There are many types of hearing aids  on the market today. Which one you use depends on your type of hearing loss, and your own preference. Here’s a little more about how completely-in-canal hearing aids (CIC) work.

How they work

Completely-in-canal hearing aids (CIC) are some of the smallest hearing aid models available today. CICs are a great option for those with mild to moderate-severe hearing loss who are looking for a discreet hearing aid solution.

Depending on the size and shape of your ear, a CIC hearing aid can fit deep inside the ear canal, making it almost invisible. All Widex CIC hearing solutions are fully automatic – so you can hear clear and natural sounds with minimal or no intervention. CIC hearing aids can be removed via a small extension cord.

DREAM CIC-MICRO: A newest – and smallest – CIC on the block

The idea of putting something so small in your ear for the first time may sound daunting – so here is an easy guide to how it works:

  • Custom-made shell: The hearing aid shell is custom-made to fit the shape of your ear – with all vital electronics inside. This shell is actually created using a 3D printing technology called CAMISHA . A hearing professional will use laser technology to make an impression of your ear canal and turn this data into a 3D computer model. A shell is then created for you for an exact fit.
  • Fit and placement: Completely-in-canal hearing aids fit in your ear, with only the faceplate visible from the outside. The custom-made shell allows for an exact fit – so it sits comfortably in your ear.
  • Removal: When it’s time to go to sleep, completely-in-canal hearing aids can easily be taken out by hand.

Batteries: Batteries must be installed via a battery door located directly on the hearing aid. This can be done by hand or by using a small magnetic wand.

Why they are great

  • Very small size – no bigger than a marble
  • Discreet –  they fit inside your ear and can easily be hidden by your hair
  • Fully-automatic – automatically adjusts to your listening needs.

Who should use them

Completely-in-canal hearing aids (CIC) are suitable for all types of hearing loss. They’re especially great for athletes and others who need their hearing aids to stay in their ears during intense physical activity.

Why they’re a great fit

Completely-in-canal hearing aids are produced using Widex CAMISHA technology. CAMISHA stands for Computer Aided Manufacturing of Individual Shells for Hearing Aids. With the use of laser technology it makes an impression of the hearing aid user’s ear canal and turns this data into a 3D computer model. This is then used as a basis for the manufacturing of individual shells and earmoulds that perfectly fit the user’s ear canal.

CAMISHA has greatly improved the comfort of completely-in-canal hearing aids, and allowed for shells that are not only smaller and more discreet, but fit the shape of the ear better. Moreover, it has made the manufacturing process far more easy and precise.

It’s because of this technology that Widex could create DREAM MICRO CIC, which is significantly smaller than other completely-in-canal hearing aids. When placed next to each other, CIC MICRO makes our previous CIC solutions look big.

While the proportions of the technical components are kept to a minimum, there is also extra flexibility with the possibility of changing the receiver (or speaker).

Widex patented CAMISHA technology is licensed to all major hearing aid manufacturers and ear labs, and has revolutionized the manufacturing of shells and earmoulds across the entire industry.

In 2012, CAMISHA won the European Inventor Award  and was afterwards featured on CNN’s “Make, Create, Innovate.”

Hearing aids should be able to be worn in all environments – even when it’s wet. That’s why Widex hearing aids are water resistant. From the internal electrical parts to the outer shell, our hearing aids are able to withstand daily use in the harshest environments.

Want to wear your hearing aids in the rain or in a humid climate? No problem. Widex hearing aids are protected from the elements. This super protection doesn’t affect the clear, natural sound of your hearing aids. In fact, proper protection makes them more reliable and less liable to malfunctions.

Widex hearing aids have the following features to protect against moisture and dust:

  • Tubes are made of specially developed rubber materials which are resistant to extreme environmental impacts such as sweat and moisture
  • A nano-coated metal grid in the wax guard protects the receiver against moisture and earwax
  • The contact pins are sealed with an O-ring and protected against moisture with silicone oil
  • The **amplifier **is sealed in 100% waterproof material to protect it against prolonged extreme environmental impacts and corrosion
  • All electrical contacts are made of precious metals and developed over many years to be resistant to extreme environmental impacts
  • The receiver coil is sealed in wax and 100% waterproof
  • The **telecoil **is moulded in 100% waterproof material
  • The microphone grid and other selected parts are nano-coated to protect against moisture

Water resistant vs. Waterproof

These terms refer to the degree to which water is prevented from leaving or entering an object, material or substance. Waterproof can be generally described as the ability of an object, material or substance to be impenetrable or unaffected by water. Water resistant refers to the ability of an object, material or substance to resist but not entirely prevent the penetration of water. Widex hearing aids are designed for normal use, including in extreme weather conditions, with focus on very high sound quality and high reliability. They have not been tested for the purpose of immersing the hearing aid in water. For this reason, it is important that you take your hearing aids off when you swim or take a shower.

Keeping your hearing aids clean

It is important to keep your hearing aids in top performing condition – and part of that involves cleaning and drying them out each night. The WIDEX DRY-GO UV electronic drying station is the perfect way to care for your hearing aids and earmoulds. Small, portable and easy to use, the DRY-GO UV lets you clean and dry your hearing aids overnight. And because it uses ultraviolet (UV) light, it is completely hygienic. So the risk of ear infections is reduced. Other benefits include:

  • Easy to use – start simply by touching the sensor button
  • Switches off automatically after three hours of drying
  • Energy efficient – uses very little power
  • Standard charger means that you can use it anywhere
  • Hygienic – cleans with UV light
  • Safe – UV light is switched off if the lid is opened
  • Protects and extends the lifetime of your hearing aid

Because a child is not a small adult

As a parent, you want the best for your child. From their health and well-being to their social and educational development, setting a solid foundation for their future is of utmost importance. As the leader in pediatric hearing solutions, we strive to give you the peace of mind knowing that your child has access to explore and be a part of the ever changing world of sound around them.

With over 40 years of expertise and input from hearing care professionals, parents, kids, and our respected international Pediatric Advisory board, we continue to push the limits of technology to support the listening needs of your child.

Explore the world with confidence!

We know that a child is not just a small adult because they face even more hearing challenges than grown-ups do. They are often in very different environments than grown-ups and need their hearing aids to confidently learn, explore and engage. Younger listeners are often hearing sounds for the first time through which they learn about the world. Unlike adults, kids don’t have the hearing experience or language understanding which we use to fill in the gaps when certain words and phrases are unclear. This is why it’s crucial for children to have access to the clearest possible sound, from the earliest possible age, to maximize their chances of hearing, speaking and learning.

As kids grow older, the ability to clearly understand speech, wherever they go is key. This helps them to freely interact with teachers and peers during lessons and leisure time, increasing their overall well-being.
